Lesson 01:Basics of Business Blogging

How to start a blog and make money

What is Business blogging?

Before learning how to start a blog and make money, let’s try to figure out the basics.

Business blogging is a marketing method (tactic) that uses blog posts to increase the online visibility of a business. You might be thinking, “What is a blog?” “What is online visibility?”

Let me answer the 1st question. A blog is an online article that people write and share on the internet. A blog can be about anything like fashion, cooking, sports, or business tips.

For example, on our DigiFix blog page, we post about digital marketing-related blog articles.

A typical blog includes information, images, and other visuals. A blog is a way people share their thoughts with others. Well, understanding a blog was a piece of cake, wasn’t it?

Let’s move on to the second question: “What is online visibility?” Online visibility simply means how easily people can find you on the internet. It’s like making sure your business shows up when people search on Google or use social media. Business blogging is a way to make sure more people discover your products or services online.

Special notes: When you do business blogging, make sure to share blogs related to your business, industry, or niche. For example, there is no point in a cooking channel blogging about automobiles.

Why should a business do blogging?

Imagine you build a website for your business, spending lots of money and putting in so much effort. But no one visits your website, and there are no sales through your website. I am sure that will be a nightmare for a business owner. That’s when business blogging comes to your rescue!

To get the most out of your business website, you need people to discover and see it. But with millions of other websites on the internet, how can you bring your website in front of your target audience?

When you have more pages on your website, you get a higher chance to rank higher in search engines.

Why?

  • When you provide high-quality, useful content, search engines think your website is a good resource for search engine users.

But the problem is, you can’t just put random web pages all over your website. People will get confused when they visit your website, and your site will look like a mess.

Business blogging is the SOLUTION!

Every blog on your site helps you to run into your target audience. For example, let’s say you are a digital marketing agency. Someone searches on Google “How to digitalize my business?” and one of your blog articles ranks higher in search results. That person will read your blog, get to know your digital services, & decide to hire your agency for their digital needs. How cool is that?

That’s the power of business blogging!

In brief, business blogging is a low-cost method to generate new leads and customers for your business.

Lesson 02: Resources you need for business blogging

A content writer

A content writer is someone good with words. That means a content writer can write creative, informative, and engaging content.

You have three options here,

(a). You can be the content writer-  If you enjoy writing and are confident in your writing skills, you can write the blog posts yourself. It is a good choice if you have the time and expertise to create high-quality content. But as a business owner, you get busy with other responsibilities and may not have time to sit down and write blogs. So, let’s see the second option.

(b). Hire a professional in-house content writer- Professional content writers have the experience and knowledge to write high-quality, engaging & captivating content relevant to your target audience and business goals. You can recruit a content writer for your company, considering their expertise and experience.

(c). Hire a digital agency for content writing.

Digital marketing agencies have a team of expert content writers who bring expertise in content strategy, ensuring that your blog posts are top-notch and align with your brand.

As a digital marketing agency, DigiFix provides content writing services to numerous companies. Our skilled content writing team employs the latest tools, techniques, and SEO optimization strategies. We offer quality assurance and monitor your blog’s performance, assisting you in reaching your goals with greater efficiency.

Keyword research tools

If you are new to business blogging, I am sure you are not familiar with the term “Keywords. ”

What are keywords?

Keywords are specific words or phrases that people type into search engines like Google when looking for information. For example, when someone wants to hire a home cleaning service, he will search for “best home cleaning service near me.” That phrase is a keyword.

Why are Keywords important for a Blog?

Using relevant keywords within your blog is essential for several reasons.

  • Using relevant keywords in your blog posts helps search engines understand what your content is about.
  • Keywords help you reach your target audience. When you use the similar words and phrases your audience is searching for, you’re more likely to attract the right customers.
  • Keywords ensure that your content is relevant to the topics you’re covering, making it more useful and informative to your readers.

How to find relevant keywords?

One special thing you need to keep in mind is using only relevant keywords within your blog. For example, if you write a blog about the benefits of email marketing, use keywords related to email marketing. But how can you find relevant keywords? That’s when keyword research tools come to your rescue.

Keyword research tools

A keyword research tool is a software or online application that helps to find and analyze specific words and phrases (keywords) that people commonly use when searching on search engines like Google.

Below are some keyword research tools that we recommend.

  • Google Ads Keyword Planner (Free to use)
  • SEMRush
  • Ahrefs
  • Moz Keyword Explorer

These tools provide valuable insights like competition for a keyword, how many people search for that keyword, and more.

As a guide, we will explain how to use Google Ads Keyword Planner to find keywords.

  1. You need a Google Ads Account for this.
  2. Visit your Google Ads account.
  3. Click the Tools and Settings option at the top.

4. Select the keyword planner option from the menu.

5.Select “Discover new keywords” option.

6. Type a word in the search bar that is relevant to the blog topic and click “Get results.” For example, if you write a blog about Digital marketing services in Australia, type that in the search bar.

7. Then, you will get a complete view of information related to the keyword you provided. You can see related keywords, search volume, competition, and more.

Tip: You should select the keywords with the highest search volume and Low or medium competition.

Images and Graphics

A blog with just text content will be too boring to read. And, people prefer visual content more than textual content. So, to add a look and feel to your blog, you will have to add visuals like images, photographs, and videos.

Why visuals?

They help to explain concepts, make your content more engaging, and break up long blocks of text.

How can you get quality visuals?

  1. Hire a graphic designer- You can hire a graphic designer for all your graphics needs. It is useful for your blogs and other parts of the website. And a graphic designer can create attractive graphics for your other marketing channels like social media.
  2. Use stock image and video websites- In stock websites, you can find ready-made images and videos. You can purchase or sometimes find them for free, and they can be a convenient and cost-effective option for adding visual appeal to your blog posts. Example websites: Freepik, Pixabay, Pexels, Stockvault.
  3. Use visual creation tools-  Another option is to use a visual creation tool. We highly recommend Canva. Canva has a free version, but with the premium version, you can do more.

4. Hire a photographer- If you write blogs about your products or services, you can hire a photographer to get high-quality pictures of your products.

SEO tools

A blog needs SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tools for several important reasons:

  • SEO tools help improve a blog’s visibility on search engines like Google.
  • Higher visibility leads to increased organic traffic. SEO tools help you identify the right keywords to target, allowing you to attract more visitors to your blog without relying solely on paid advertising.
  • SEO tools help ensure that your content remains relevant to your target audience.
  • SEO tools enable you to analyze your competitors’ strategies.
  • SEO tools often provide suggestions for improving content quality.
  • SEO tools may offer insights into user experience factors such as page load times and mobile-friendliness, which can impact your blog’s search engine rankings.
  • These tools provide data and analytics to monitor the performance of your blog.
  • SEO tools assist in finding the most relevant and high-performing keywords for your niche.

We highly recommend SEMRush as an SEO tool for your business blogging purposes.

Analytics tools

You need tools that provide valuable insights and data to understand how readers interact with your content and how your blog is performing.

Here are some tools that we suggest,

(a). Google Analytics- This is one of the most popular website analytics tools. It provides detailed information about your blog’s traffic, user behavior, demographics, and much more. You can track the number of visitors, page views, bounce rates, and conversion goals.

(b). Google Search Console: Formerly known as Google Webmaster Tools, this tool helps you monitor how your blog is performing in Google search results. It provides data on search queries that lead to your blog, and indexing issues, and helps you optimize your content for better search visibility.

(c).WordPress Stats: If you’re using WordPress as your blogging platform, it offers built-in statistics. You can view basic data on your blog’s traffic, popular posts, and incoming links.

(d).SEMrush: SEMrush is a comprehensive SEO and marketing analytics tool that provides competitive research, keyword analysis, and performance tracking for your blog.

These analytical tools offer valuable data and insights that can guide your content strategy, improve user experience, and optimize your blog for better performance, helping you reach your blogging goals effectively.

Budget

A budget is the money you set aside for specific purposes or expenses. In business blogging, having a budget means allocating funds for various aspects of your blog.

What are the costs you can expect in business blogging,

Content Creation- Creating high-quality blog content requires hiring content writers, editors, and graphic designers or investing in research materials. (We explained this in the “resources needed for blogging”)

Paid Promotion- To increase your blog’s visibility and reach a wider audience, you can consider paid promotion through online advertising, social media campaigns, or sponsored content.

Tools/Software Subscriptions- Many bloggers use tools and software to optimize their blogs, such as SEO tools, email marketing platforms, or analytics services.

The budget for business blogging depends on your goals, strategy, and available financial resources. A well-planned budget helps you manage your blog effectively.

Lesson 03: Master the art of writing the perfect blog

A perfect blog article is a result of dedication and effort. You can’t just copy and paste from somewhere else. This section will help you to study how to master the art of writing the perfect blog.

Select a niche for your blog

Choosing a niche relevant to your business means selecting a specific topic or subject for your blog that is directly connected to what your business does. It ensures that the content you create on your blog is closely related to your expertise and the products or services you offer. By doing this, your blog becomes a valuable resource for people who are genuinely interested in what your business provides.

Understand the SEO requirements for a blog.

Studying the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) requirements for a blog involves becoming familiar with key elements that influence how well your blog performs on search engines like Google. These elements include:

Title Tags: These are the titles you give to your blog posts. Make sure to add clear, descriptive titles and add relevant keywords to help search engines understand what your post is about.

Tip: Google recommends 50–60 characters length for a title tag.

Meta Descriptions: These are summaries of your blog posts that appear in search engine results. A well-crafted meta description summarizes your content & encourages users to click on your link.

Tip: The character length of a meta description is 155-160. It is the recommended limit by Google.

Internal linking: This involves linking to other relevant pages or blog posts within your own website. It helps users navigate your site and improves the overall structure and organization of your content. For example, if you write a blog about SEO tools, you can link to another blog about SEO tools on your blog page.

Alt text for images: Alt text is a brief description of images used on your blog. It helps search engines understand the content of your images.

A good understanding of these SEO elements can improve your blog’s visibility in search engine results.

Provide high-quality content

Quality content is the key to attracting both search engines and readers. Try to provide content that gives a benefit to your audience.

To do this effectively:

Understand your audience: Get to know the interests and needs of your readers. It helps you create content that resonates with them.

Offer value: Your content should provide something useful, whether it’s helpful tips, expert advice, entertaining stories, or informative explanations.

Engage and educate: Keep your readers engaged by delivering content that educates or entertains. Make sure they leave your blog post with more knowledge or a solution to a problem.

Address their needs: Tailor your content to address the questions and concerns your audience has.

Maintain Consistency: Publish content regularly and maintain a consistent level of quality. That encourages readers to return to your blog for reliable information.

Ultimately, the goal is to create content that attracts readers & also keeps them coming back for more. Quality content builds trust, establishes authority in your niche, and builds a loyal audience.

Remember to add a Call to action.

Remember to incorporate Calls to Action (CTAs) in your blog posts. These are clear and persuasive prompts that encourage your readers to take specific actions as,

  • signing up for your newsletter
  • reaching out for more details
  • making a purchase

CTAs are essential because they serve as guiding signposts, directing your audience toward the actions you want them to take. They help you achieve desired outcomes by prompting readers to engage with your content in meaningful ways and ultimately contribute to your blog’s success and business goals.
